Recap International Natural Hair Meetup Day 2013 presented by Natural Girls Rock

This year the bestie and I hosted our first International Natural Hair Meetup Day event in our town Jackson, Tn. It was alot of hard work but I can honestly say that our mission was accomplished. We met so many beautiful natural bellas and we were very pleased to see how many actually existed in our area.  We made sure our ladies were enriched in each area of their lives by offering workshops such as ” Enhancing Your Natural Beauty” with MUA Sheila Nixon who taught our naturalistas how to go from an everyday face to an evening face in no time. Dr. Timothy Glenn, life coach/life mentor expounded upon the true power behind the phrase “If you believe it, you can achieve it,” by explaining to the ladies that in order to be successful and show up in their own lives they must deal with the unconscious parts of themselves that are sabotaging their goals. Next, Betty Tignor of Naturally Herbs taught the ladies how to use natural Chinese methods to help them live a healthy life. Lastly, Takeisha Berry-Brooks owner and stylist of A Natural Affair Beauty Lounge answered all of the burning questions the ladies had about their natural hair.

We also had vendors that sold amazing products and ended the event with an awesome giveaway by some pretty cool sponsors!  I am so excited to see what comes of this experience and after all of the long sleepless nights and burning eyes from staring at my computer screen, I can’t wait to do it all over again! Check out our recap video of the event:

National Natural Hair Meetup Day w/FCA Naturals

Founders of FCA Naturals April McKisick (L) and Samantha Horton (R)

Hello all! This past month I attended the National Natural Hair Meetup Day along with many naturals across the USA (yes I know this is late but when life happens what can you do).  We didn’t have a meetup in the city I lived so I attended a meetup in Memphis which is a reasonable distance to drive.

The meetup was hosted by the FCA Naturals at the Playhouse On The Square on Union Ave. Upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly faces and swag bags. The lobby area was filled with delicious appetizers and drinks which disappeared swiftly! Around the corner of the lobby was a hall filled with many vendors ready to help each natural with something of their preference.

In the main room there were a few vendors and natural hair salon representatives; this is also where the presentations took place. Each salon gave live demonstrations of their work and had Q&A sessions at the end. Also, there were presentations of makeup, numerology, and healthy nutrition. I was pleased that the FCA Naturals took the time to concentrate on providing information for the “whole” being and not just the hair.

Oh, last but not least they had fabulous giveaways and I had my eyes, heart, and soul set on that Karen’s Body Beautiful basket!!! I didn’t win it (boooo), but my niece won a black girls rock t-shirt and found the perfect stylist to do her big chop. It was a great event and I am very glad I chose to attend.

The lobby was packed.

There were plenty of live demos and great information.

Ms. Pearl Hair Deva Walker from Legacy Locks & Natural Styles

TaKeisha Berry-Brooks and the Lovely Ladies of A Natural Affair Beauty Lounge. They did an excellent job of making my niece comfortable during her big chop!

Etniq Cosmetics

I had to hit up the t-shirt vendors! I love me some natural hair tees!
I’m Loving  the founder Sonya of Natural Addictees for the deal she gave us.

I even got a great deal with the Natural Cuties Tees and well.

Lastly, the talented Ms. Arekah the Goddess Photography. Her photography is sick yall! Check her website out ASAP!

Well that’s all for now. Hope you enjoyed.

Peace

A True Georgia Peach!

Okay, so when I attended the WNHS I stayed at the Marriott-Gateway which was conveniently located next door to the Convention Center in which the hair show was held. Let me tell ya’ll, this hotel was the bomb.com! It was so nice!!!

When you arrive, you will be greeted by friendly doormen who will quickly assist you in unloading your luggage from your car, shuttle, or taxi. Next, if you drove yourself, valet will whisk your vehicle off to safe parking.

When you enter the lobby you will be greeted with a beautiful modern atmosphere that is both welcoming and exciting. It is a place that you are happy you chose to be. The front desk clerks are very polite and very personable. After checking in, the friendly bellhop will escort you to your room (don’t forget to tip).

Lobby Entrance View

The rooms were oh so comforting and inviting. The beds looked as if they were whispering, “come and rest for you have traveled far” (lol). They were as comfortable as they appeared. I slept like a baby the entire time I was there.

We stayed in a double room.

We arrived early that morning so after dropping off our luggage we went downstairs and ate at the in-hotel restaurant called Champions. We opted for the breakfast bar that was fully loaded and it came equipped with a chef to prepare fresh omelets in front of you. SN: breakfast, lunch, and dinner are hella expensive here so make sure you come fully prepared to splurge for every meal if you don’t have a car to travel and eat.

The oh-so delicious yet hella expensive breakfast bar.

After the hair show, we returned to the hotel and had lunch. The hotel’s lobby doubles as a bar and that bar has a full menu you can dine from as well so we chose to eat there for lunch. The crab bisque is Ahhmazeballs!

We went to our rooms to relax for awhile and later decided to go for a couple of drinks. This, ladies and gentlemen was when our night became very interesting. When we walked up to the bar and took our seats, we were greeted with a warm smile and a very charismatic personality. After asking what would we like, I requested a drink that my friend had at Champions earlier that tasted really delicious. She responded, “sweetie we don’t serve those drinks over here.” I replied, you don’t, “well what do you serve?” She responded, “we serve the goood stuff over here.” And that my friends, was the beginning of a great night. My friends and I are very picky about the taste of our cocktails or martinis. Some of us are more picky than others, hmph. However, with Ms. Deborah tending the bar, there wasn’t one complaint that night. She would simply ask what do you like? Then based off of your response, she fixed the perfect concoctions custom made to your unique tastes. Also when it comes to great conversation, we laughed and chatted about an array of topics. I’m telling you, this woman was so fun that when she attended to the needs of the other patrons, I think my friends and I slick became jealous and felt abandoned, lol. This hotel was wonderful and beautiful all on its on but the beautiful Georgia Peach behind the bar is what makes me excited about going back.

Okay, so here were my OOTD’s while I was in the ATL!

I know, I know, you can’t see the shoes. They were simple 3 in heels the same darker blue color you see on my jewelry.

This outfit was so comfy. Perfect for product hunting!

Earthy goddess!

The World Natural Hair Show

Ok, let me begin by saying that those lines were freaking RI-DONK-ULOUS and I will be purchasing my tickets online from now on! That being said…I had so much fun at the WNHS! I had my girls with me and you know we went in on products! These are all mine but my girls bought just as many products as I did so yeah we kinda lost our minds at the show.

Ok, so we knew that Uncle Funky’s Daughter would be a vendor at the show so as soon as I walked in the door I made a beeline for their booth. The line was out the door and it seemed as if they were the most popular booth at the time. I already knew that I wanted the Curly Magic. One of the reasons most people attend the WNHS is to take advantage of the great deals on the products they either already love or want to try. HOWEVER, Uncle Funky’s Daughter was NOT one of the vendors that offered a great deal. They did have a bundle that you could get at a discount but the gel, umm no. No deals for you lady! I was highly disappointed at this because I was ready to leave with at least 2 0r 3 of the Curly Magics but no bueno! So I only purchased 1 for regular price and some Extra Butter moisturizer and walked away slick mad. Despite that little set back I caught some really great deals from the other vendors. Here’s what I got:

Uncle Funky’s Curly Magic and Extra Butter

B.A.S.K.’s Palm Tapioca

Camille Rose Naturals’  Aloe Whipped Gel, Curl Love Moisture Milk, and Jansyn’s Moisture Max Conditioner

Karen’s Body Beautiful Hair Nectar in White Tea and Sweet Ambrosia in Creamy Cocoa Mango and Pomegranate Guava

Shea Radiance Moisturizing Hair Milk, Maximum Hair Defining Cream, and Ultra Rich Shea Buttercream.

African Pride’s Bouncy Curl Pudding and Leave-in Condish

I stopped by As I Am but they were all sold out so they gave me a coupon for 20% off and free shipping. I thought that was very cool of them. I also purchased 3 t-shirts and a bunch of jewelry.

Lastly, I love to go to the WNHS to hopefully run into my favorite youtubers and I did just that. More than I expected…here are the pics.

Mlle. CafeAuLait The very first natural hair youtuber I watched and my inspiration to go natural!

Side Note: I have no idea what is going on with my eyes in this pic, nor what that spot is but this was the only pic I had and I WANT to post it! That is all.

I can honestly say that I had a very fun and satisfying trip. I can’t wait to do it again next year and I know exactly who to take with me…

I’ll post pics of the hotel we stayed in and the outfits I wore in the next post.

Talk to you soon,

Natural Girls Rock Anniversary Party!

As I stated in my last post, I attended the World Natural Hair Show in the ATL. this past weekend. Prior to Natural Girls Rock had their Anniversary Party the Friday before the hair show and I couldn’t wait to attend! My friends and I purchased the VIP tickets and had an excellent view!

The party took place at the Posh and Trendy Tongue and Groove lounge.

Many beautiful naturals came out to celebrate NGR’ s anniversary.

There were 2 bars and let me just say these bartenders were great at their jobs…no seriously.

The event was hosted by the lovely BeautifulBrwnBabyDol

(L)-AlchemysChild (M)-BeautifulBrwnBabyDol (R)-Me

The entertainment consisted of Delonda Harvey singing her popular song “Good Enough,” body art, and a fabulous fashion show!

NGR models

There were contests for Best TWA and Best Twist out styles. My friends and I participated…we didn’t win lol.

I bet you can tell who won? Lol

Bestie trying for best Twistout.

Even though we didn’t win, we did get complimentary NGR t-shirts and that was just fine with me since I had my eye on a particular shirt the entire time. I had a really great time and I met some wonderful naturals and fellow bloggers (shout out to April from the Cocoa Report and Yolanda from CurlyandLovely). I definitely will keep an eye out for their next event.
